We appreciate your individuality at BILTRITE, so we will special order furniture to fit your specific style and needs. Special orders can include your choice of fabric, leather, wood, hardware, finish, color or size and we still offer you a great sale price! Most special orders take approximately one to three months to arrive.

Are you unsure where to put your new furniture, or how to coordinate it with your existing pieces, flooring and paint? Bring your floor plan, swatches and photos to our staff and they will be happy to help you, either in our showroom or with the use of our Room Planner before your next visit!

We can deliver furniture to small areas that other stores cannot. Many of our sofas, loveseats, sectionals and reclining options can come apart for easy delivery. These pieces are perfect for attics, basements, second floors, narrow spaces and tight delivery situations.

If you are not sure if the furniture you purchased will fit in your home, we will come to measure, at no charge, before your delivery. Please set up an appointment at the time of purchase.

HISTORY

1928: BILTRITE Furniture is founded by Irwin Kerns as an upholstery shop on 3rd and Garfield in Milwaukee. This location sold custom-made sofas for $1000 and created BILTRITE’s reputation for better quality furniture that has carried on for four generations. While BILTRITE no longer builds its own furniture, the furniture now sold at BILTRITE comes from brand name companies, the vast majority of which are manufactured in the USA and Canada.

1929: Irwin Kerns and his wife Frieda give birth to their daughter, Claire. The Great Depression hits the country, but BILTRITE finds a way to grow by developing its business plan of selling quality furniture with value, selection, and service at the lowest price to stay in business. Eighty three years later, BILTRITE has weathered through many changes in the economy by following this same plan and is the oldest family furniture store in Milwaukee.

1948: BILTRITE moves to 723 West Mitchell Street.

1950: Mort K. marries Claire K. and begins to work at BILTRITE.

1964: Marty K., Mort K. and Claire K.’s son, begins to help out on weekends.

1977: Marty K. marries Gail K. and she becomes a part of the third generation of BILTRITE.

1987: Maureen K., Marty K.’s sister, leaves her law practice to join her brother and father as they begin to expand on Mitchell Street.

1989: BILTRITE acquires an additional building on Mitchell Street and remodels to connect four buildings, including the old Park movie theater and the A & P, as one large, multi-level store.

1994: BILTRITE becomes a founding member of Furniture 1st, a billion dollar buying group that helps independent retailers across the country pass savings onto consumers as well as compete with national chains.

2001: Randi K., Fourth Generation, graduates from High Point University in North Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design and a minor in Art. High Point University is the only college in the country that offers a Home Furnishings Program connected to the furniture industry. She returns to Milwaukee to rejoin the family business.

2004: Brad K., Fourth Generation, graduates from High Point University with Bachelors’ Degrees in Home Furnishings Marketing, Home Furnishings Management and Business Administration. He returns to Milwaukee to rejoin the family business.

2005: BILTRITE purchases land in Greenfield to build a new facility.

2006: BILTRITE relocates to the new 65,000 sq. ft. location, and Randi K. becomes BILTRITE’s spokesperson.

2008: BILTRITE celebrates their 80th Anniversary.

2009: BILTRITE begins to carry Amish furniture made in Holmes County, Ohio, which is home the largest Amish population in the country.

2011: BILTRITE celebrates their fifth year in the new Greenfield location.

I just wanted to tell you what a great store you have. My Husband and I were there last week and it is the second visit to purchase we have made. We came to your store because of the excelent service/products you have. We were met at the door by a very friendly staff and she asked if there was anything in particular we were looking for. We told her that this trip we were looking for recliners, in particular a “Big Mans” recliner. She directed us and we lazily walked back to the direction we were given. When I moved here as a kid in 1994, my parents’ house wasn’t ready for us, so I ended up spending my first month in Wisconsin at an overnight camp.

When camp was over, my parents picked me up from the bus, and took me to my new home.

I thought I would take your email to me as an opportunity to write an email to you.

My first purchase from BiltRite occurred about eight or ten years ago. I was looking for a bookcase and a television stand, and a co-worker suggested BiltRite. She told me to call the store and talk to a salesman. I had never done business that way, but it worked! I told your salesman what I was looking for and came into your Mitchell Street store that evening. I purchased the first bookcase he showed me and the second television stand he had selected.

After your move to your Greenfield location, I purchased another television stand for a different room and later a set of end tables for my living room. Unfortunately, I purchased a leather sofa from a different retailer and an over-sized stuffed chair with ottoman from yet another retailer, and I hate these purchases. I should have stuck with BiltRite. The other purchases are not wearing well, so sooner than later I will be back to BiltRite to replace them. I should have stuck with a proven winner!

The new couch seems very nice. Feels much more supportive but still comfortable. The fabric obviously won’t shed so we won’t be repeating that problem. Thanks for making this right, I am not sure other stores would have done the same.
